"MEMO To: USA Boxing Members From: Anthony Bartkowski, Executive Director Date: April 23,2012 Re: 2012 National golden Gloves Tournament Status
We want to Provide an update to all USA Boxing members on the status of the 2012 National Golden Gloves Tournament that is scheduled for April 29- May 5 in Mesquite, Nevada. The Golden gloves will not be conducting the 2012 National Tournament in compliance with the USA Boxing rules.
The first several rounds of the tournament will not be conducted using three, three-minute rounds, and the entire tournament will not be using the approved computer scoring system. The USA Boxing Board of Directors approved these rules last year. We have tried to work with the Golden Gloves leadership over the prior year to become compliant with all rules. the purpose of following the technical rules of USA Boxing is to provide a similar competition platform that is witnessed for Team USA when we are competing internationally.
We have had limited international opportunites in properly preparing the U.S. team, and it is an initiatve of the USA Boxing leadership to provide similar national events that our athletes will see when competing internationally.
Since USA Boxing was notified so late that Golden Gloves was not going to follow these technical rules, we could have cancelled the event as USA Boxing sanctions it. USA Boxing will allow the 2012 National Golden Gloves Tournament to be conducted as planned to benefit the athletes and to avoid any travel plans being cancelled. However, we wanted to inform you that the individual champions of the 2012 National Golden Gloves Tournament will not be automatically qualified into the 2013 USA Boxing National Championships.
I look forward to watching the athletes compete at the 2012 National golden Gloves Tournament next week. If you have any questions on this, please contact me.
Anthony Bartkowski"

one question? Is usa boxing going to require these regulations at every tournament? Ringside, black gloves, title tournament etc. I don't understand how they can threaten the sanction because another group decided to run their tournament their way..I can understand the placement and they've already eliminated the national points, but this is not usa boxing's money that is sponsoring this event.. Sounds to me like usa boxing should mind their own f@#$ing business, or sponsor the event monetarily. classic case of my peckers bigger than yours!

I'm with super fight fan on this..I can sanction a local fight tournament and not be required to use electronic clickers( which I personally believe to be a complete joke.!)and determine fight lengths at my discretion as long as they don't exceed usa boxing guide lines. My tournament might not mean jack to usa boxing or to the national point system, but right now ,neither does golden gloves..The sanction is for the insurance of the event.. not for the advancement of the usa international fighters. I've been to the ringside tournament the last 10 years and not once have I seen electronic clickers or 3 minute rounds..p.s. If it's not about the money why is usa boxing trying to charge golden gloves a rental fee for their "mandatory" clicker system..

the difference is these are the rules the gloden gloves has agreed to follow and then they say there are not going to follow them if this tournament is as great as the gloden gloves claims why dont they box three minute rounds like the usa and the pal tournaments . would you put on a show without insurance so you could be the one who gets sued that is the chance usa boxing is taking each time they sanction a show not the gloden gloves they take no chance and do nothing but complain poor me

I do believe usa boxing is subsidized through the olympic committee. If carrying this insurance is such a burden maybe usa should relinqiush their monopoly on boxing registrations and allow boxers to register under another subsidized insurance carrier. I seriously doubt this will happen due to the power struggle both organizations have developed over the years, but it's definitely food for thought. Still don't understand why usa boxing feels the need to rent the electronic clickers as opposed to donating them ,as the need for this type of scoring seems very important to their goal.Let me be clear, I am not pro golden gloves or USA. I am a however ,anti big government..I think the controlling parties from both organizations need to reflect back to the real purpose of amature boxing. Mentoring and developing strong, disciplined, self respecting youth that we can be confidant will lead us into a better tomorrow.

I just seen some results from day one of the tourney. It said Sergio Garcia beat Defrim Beqiri and Renam Garcia lost to James Perella. At the 165 list of fights it said Brahmaviqi Montgomery beat Luis Molina of Upper Mid-West. And Manny Contreras wasn't listed in the 201 list of fights. Manny might of gotten a bye, but does anyone know what's up with Corey Thompson? Maybe he got a sub or it was a misprint??
Has anyone been in contact with the fighter or trainers there?
Thanks

Corey Thompson had hurt his hand and no one else from the UMGG tourney could go, so they got the runner-up from Region 2 tournament. Molina from Rochester has a lot of experience from years ago and is a good fighter. He lost last night but it was a bad decision. Contreras received a bye and now will fight on Wednesday. Super heavyweight from Grand Forks pulled out and was replaced by the runner-up from Wadena. The 114 pounder also couldn't make it.

Dalton Outlaw won last night. Super-heavy Perez got stopped- he faced some real huge guy. Nate Rubin lost by decision. Outlaw, Contreres, and the little guy Garcia from Fergus Falls fight tonight.

I was wondering if Oscar Soto got a bye. I haven't seen nothing on him.

Looks like the boys are doing ok @ the Nationals. I don't thinks Oscar made the trip but I do not know for sure. Corey Thompson injured his hand in the UMGG Finals and a sub from Rochetster filled in, Manny Contreres is still in Sergio Garcia is still in.
Regarding the USA Boxing Sanctions and etc. As a Business Consultant when we try and implement change or uncover problems we perform an assessment of the companies culture, management and infrastructure. I guess seeing these emails about the Golden Gloves....The Silver Gloves etc we can see that the "Toxic" management style at a highlevel within USA Boxing is probably driving down or contributing to some of the problems seen around the country at a local level. Sound well managed and successful organizations never need to question or push down authority within their own organizations...there input and direction comes directly from wihtin their organization and is what everyone wants for the betterment of the program or in the case amateur boxing. They receive support of their decisions because everyone has bought into and agreed on the direction, standards and processes. I do not know the background of all of the people involved in the management of USA Boxing but from what I am seeing possibly they are not qualified to be managing amateur boxing from a communication and strategical direction standpoint.
Were these people appointed or elected? If elected who got to vote? If appointed by whom?
